In April Mayville High School launched its Performing Arts Academy, offering your children the chance to take part in an Easter workshop and Summer Schools in dance, singing, drama and technical theatre. Mayville High School has long been ahead of its time in recognising the intrinsic value of performing arts and now we would like to offer our expertise and facilities to all children in the school holidays.
Our pupils have been taking LAMDA exams in speech and drama since 1985 and we are one the few schools in the South to have been involved in Rock Challenge since its inception more than 20 years ago. In July we are staging High School Musical at the Kings Theatre and our last performance of Peter Pan there saw specialist teams brought in to teach our children to fly in harnesses. At Mayville we have wonderful facilities, including two dance studios and a hall that can be transformed into a theatre space. Many of our pupils have gone into higher education in the performing arts and a significant number have gone on to work in the creative industry as dancers, actors and in television.
During the Summer holiday we are running two Summer Schools, Monday 6th- Friday 10th August and Monday 20th- Friday 24th August, which include singing, dance and acting as well as an option to experience Technical Theatre. Mayville Academy of Performing Arts Summer School pupils will have the opportunity to explore the theme of Hollywood, past and present, through drama, dance and music. From classes exploring a variety of skills in each genre, pupils will workshop towards a final performance which will travel through time. It is an opportunity for your children to improve their confidence and fitness, build on the skills they already have and work as part of a team. Those who choose the Technical Theatre option will experience training in Sound, Lighting and Stage Management, working towards running the Tech for the final performance. Parents will be invited to watch a performance showcasing the week's work on the Friday evening. Fun, excitement, enthusiasm, making new friends, while gaining experience in the performing arts, are a key focus of these dynamic, action packed weeks. We would like to warmly invite all budding young actors, singers, dancers and those interested in behind-the-scenes skills to take part.
Open to all children, 7-16 years old. To book your child’s place on one of our Summer Schools, please call: 023 9273 4847 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Cost £165 for the week
