Welcome to Pre-Prep and Juniors

The Pre-Prep and Junior Schools are bright, vibrant environments which are designed to capture and challenge the inquisitive minds of young children. We believe that if children feel happy, safe and confident, they will be ready to learn. At Mayville, we want each pupil to feel valued and appreciated as an individual.

Our pupils are taught in small classes by enthusiastic teachers who are committed to our ethos of “education through nurture.” These small classes enable pupils to receive high levels of support, motivation and encouragement. Our philosophy of “co-education with a difference” ensures that core subjects are taught in single-sex classes, where we have opportunities to tailor lessons to different learning styles, whilst boys and girls benefit from sharing some timetabled lessons and socialising together at break times and during extra-curricular activities. We feel that we have combined the best of both worlds.

Pupils are given access to a rich and varied curriculum, designed to give them a solid foundation on which to build as they progress along their educational journey. The weekly timetable is a mix of academic, creative and sporting experiences for pupils to enjoy. We understand that children have different strengths and provide opportunities for them to experience a wide range of subjects, so they may find their niche and explore their own unique talents. English, Mathematics and Science form the core of the curriculum in Key Stage 1 & 2, but pupils also experience Languages, ICT, Sport, Art, Music and Drama; all of which are taught by specialist teachers.

Opportunities for learning take place both inside and outside of the classroom, with regular local excursions, educational trips planned throughout the year and a wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer. Residential visits start in the second year of the Junior School and give pupils the chance to strengthen friendships, learn new skills and grow in self-confidence. The House system provides a sense of community across age groups. It also encourages friendly competition through weekly House Mark totals and regular varied House competitions. Pupils are encouraged to strive for excellence and to be the best that they can be.

The learning experience in the Pre-Prep and Junior Schools is designed to provide our pupils with a wealth of educational and pastoral opportunities which help them develop into confident and happy children, ready for the next stage in their lives.
